Description: Children will work in small groups daily rotating from area to area based on their age (as of 6/1/10).  There will be a morning snack break provided and a half an hour lunch break daily.  Weather pending some activities and workshops will be taught outside.  (Participants should bring a beach towel daily in their bag for outdoor events along with a notebook and pencils for classes).

CAPS Kids Camp is an excellent way for kids to have fun in a safe environment. Children get a chance to learn more about theater and make friends in a fun and positive atmosphere. Children start out the day at 9:00 all together and from there the fun begins! They move from workshops to rehearsals to games and back again in the 7-hour day. On Friday campers get the opportunity to present their camp showcase for friends and family. All children receive a t-shirt and must bring pencils, a notebook and a bagged lunch and snack from home.  Sneakers or dance shoes are required daily.

Acting: This class focuses on establishing the "building blocks" of acting with which the students can begin analyzing text and creating characters. Students may write or create their own scenes or perform monologues or scenes from popular shows for their end of the week performance.

Singing: Using a variety of exercises, students will begin exploring their own musicality and rhythm. Emphasis will be placed on ear training and breath support. Musical instruments may be used to teach rhythm.  Students will work with musical tracks from popular musicals to learn a song for their performance at the end of the week.

Theater Dance/Movement: Younger students will be taught to utilize their bodies while developing their imagination and focus. Older students will be provided with a working knowledge of the essential elements involved in dance for the theater. Styles may include jazz, ballet and hip-hop.

Production Class: Students will rehearse scenes and musical numbers to be performed on Friday as part of a showcase. Elements from all other classes will be incorporated into each production.

Special Seminars & Theatre Skills: Students will spend time each day with instructors and speakers, performers and/or designers who will demonstrate and/or teach their specialty. Topics may include audition techniques, resume creation, stage combat and "behind-the-scenes" elements such as set, costume, makeup, sound/light design, and more. This time may be used to create crafts or projects that are theater related; this may include masks, props and more.

Showcase: The last Friday of each session, students will participate in a performance. In order to give all students a chance to perform, the showcase will be composed of a series of scenes and musical numbers. In lieu of costumes, students will wear CAPS Kids T-shirts with black shorts, or pants they can move and dance in (yoga style, leggings for girls work well) boys may wear black or blue jeans or shorts.  Showcase is Friday afternoon at 2pm!
